Books and films are often an easier way for someone new to this work to begin exploring different perspectives. Many people think of slavery as only a Southern phenomenon and something that has happened in the past that has no impact on life today. The Center curates a list of books and films that help challenge these myths and introduce people to the reality about slavery, the slave trade and it legacies. We have trained facilitators who can help a group engage in meaningful conversation around a book or film. We also offer facilitator training. One of our goals is to build a growing cadre of people who are knowledgable and comfortable talking about these issues and are able to enter into respectful dialogue with people who may be unaware of the historical context or challenging realities of American life that have descended from our history of slavery.
